I am happy to offer psychotherapy also in English. In following I would like to give you some information about psychotherapy, about me, my work and the formal requirements of psychotherapy. As part of my formal training I studied for one year at the University of Colorado Denver and Boulder. I also completed a professional internship in Seattle Washington.
What is psychotherapy?
The term psychotherapy comes from the Greek and literally means „treatment of the soul“. Psychotherapy therefore attempts to heal or alleviate mental suffering.
Psychotherapeutic treatment is a scientifically based and professional healing method accepted by the health insurance funds. It treats psychological disorders such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, compulsions, sexual disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder and psychosomatic illnesses. Psychotherapy can also be used as a complementary treatment for purely physical illnesses such as cancer or cardiovascular diseases.
How does psychotherapy differs from psychiatry? Psychiatry is a medical profession that uses primarily psychotropic drugs as a course of treatment. Psychotherapy focuses exten-sively on psychotherapeutic methods for treating emotional and mental suffering and requires the active cooperation of the patient for healing.
When is psychotherapy advisable?
If you suffer from psychological issues and cannot cope with them alone or with the help of partners, friends and family, professional help is advisable to clarify and solve the issues.
Which psychotherapeutic methods do I use?
My therapeutic approach is a respectful, understanding and appreciative encounter with my patients.
As a licensed psychotherapists my clinical-therapeutic experience and in cooperation with my patients, I try to create a clear picture that includes the patient’s problems, difficulties and symptoms. I also obtain the patient’s personal history and evaluate the ways that stabilizes the problem. That means I try to explore together with the patient how his/her personal problems might have arisen and how the negative behavioral patterns interferes with living a healthy life. I then work with you to find ways to deal with your issues more successfully in the future.
I use multiple therapeutic methods including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, schema therapy as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) trauma therapy. I use insight-oriented and clarifying methods of psychodynamic procedures to uncover conflicts and to extract the problems and difficulties from the patient’s life history so that the patient gains insights on his/her own. In order to work on the current maintaining conditions of the disorder and to change the behavior, thinking and feelings, I use various methods of behavior therapy, schema therapy as well as EMDR trauma therapy. Of course I also try to include the patient’s existing abilities, skills and resources to seek change.
I achieve the high quality and professionalism of my work for and with the patients through regular supervision with colleagues and through conferences and continuing education courses and workshops.
